Endodontics is a dental specialty that focuses on the inside of the tooth. While the hard, outer layer of the tooth, called the enamel, gets most of the attention because it is visible, the soft tissue inside the tooth is incredibly important.
This soft tissue, called dental pulp, includes the blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissues that help the tooth grow and develop. However, this pulp can become infected or inflamed. Without treatment, the diseased pulp can cause pain, an abscess, or swelling.
Root canal therapy is a common endodontic procedure for treating infected or inflamed pulp. Several circumstances can contribute to diseased pulp, including deep decay or trauma to your tooth.
Most root canal treatments last for the lifetime of your other natural teeth. However, sometimes your tooth may fail to heal or still cause pain. In these circumstances, your endodontist may recommend root canal retreatment.
An apicoectomy, or root-end resection, is the most common type of endodontic surgery. Your endodontist may recommend an apicoectomy if you have persistent inflammation or infection in the tip of the root of your tooth after root canal treatment.
Dr. DiCarlo is the best! Went in for a root canal and had absolutely zero pain during the procedure. He made me feel very relaxed and made the experience 1000x better than I expected!
This group was wonderful! They were able to see my husband almost immediately and were able to treat him quickly. We are very grateful for them and their professionalism. Would absolutely recommend to anyone and everyone!
I wasn't quite sure what to expect considering I've never had a root canal before. The procedure was painless. Dr. Simon is the best. Would recommend.
